Im amazed that the Owens River Gorge has its own homepage! But to be truthful it pains me to see the sacred walls of the Chickchanzee covered with recreators . Im not sure why. I grew up in that gorge and lived in Benton. The Indians were removed from the gorge by force and it is believed that their ghosts still shout for mercy some nights. I never did care for urbanites and was generally annoyed to have to make the routine rescue trips on behalf of the wall climbers when ever the overzealous fell down and broke something serious. I suppose it is the complete lack of interest and respect on the part of the recreators that bothers indeginious locals. But have fun and please remember the people that were exterminated from those walls just seventy years ago.
